What it is and why it matters
SAP PP (Production Planning) plans and runs production: MRP, bills of materials, routings and production orders. SAP QM (Quality Management) controls quality at receiving, in process and for finished goods. Together they determine whether the plant produces the right thing, at the right cost and with documented quality.
What we configure
- MRP and material requirements planning
- Bills of materials (BOM) and routings
- Production orders, confirmations and consumption
- Production costing, variances and order settlement
- Inspection plans and inspection characteristics
- Inspection lots at receiving, in process and for finished goods
- Usage decisions, quality certificates and batch traceability
What we see most in SAP PP/QM
MRP isn't reliable and planning is done in Excel
We review planning master data, lead times and lot-size parameters so MRP proposes the right thing.
Actual cost drifts far from standard
We analyze variances by order and adjust BOMs, routings, rates and confirmations.
Quality is recorded outside SAP
We integrate inspections into receiving and production, with stock blocked until the usage decision.
Where we work inside SAP
PP takes demand from SD, consumes and receives materials from MM, generates costs and variances in CO and, with QM, blocks or releases inventory based on the quality decision. In plants with automated warehouses, EWM supplies the production lines.

SAP PP/QM FAQ
Do you work with discrete and process manufacturing?
Yes. We configure production orders for discrete manufacturing and process orders for industries such as food and beverage.
Can you integrate QM with purchase receipts?
Yes. We configure receiving inspection so material stays blocked until it's released.
Do you help understand production variances?
Yes. We review variances by order and by category, and adjust master data and processes to reduce them.
