What it is and why it matters
SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) runs the physical warehouse: receiving, putaway, picking, packing and shipping, with radio frequency and bin rules. In S/4HANA, classic SAP WM is not part of the future model, so companies using it must plan their move to embedded EWM or Stock Room Management.
What we configure
- Warehouse structure design: storage types, sections and bins
- Inbound processes: receiving, unloading, inspection and putaway
- Outbound processes: waves, picking, packing and shipping
- Physical inventory and cycle counts
- Radio frequency (RF) for floor operations
- Replenishment of production lines
- Migration from SAP WM to EWM in the S/4HANA conversion
What we see most in SAP EWM
We don't know which bin each material is in
We design the bin structure and the putaway and removal rules.
Picking is slow and error-prone
We configure waves, picking strategies and RF confirmation.
We use SAP WM and are migrating to S/4HANA
We evaluate the embedded EWM or Stock Room Management path based on your warehouse's complexity.
Where we work inside SAP
EWM receives deliveries from MM (purchasing) and SD (sales), supplies PP in production, respects QM quality decisions and updates book inventory through MM and FI.
| Transaction | What it's for |
|---|---|
/SCWM/MON | Warehouse monitor |
/SCWM/PRDI | Inbound deliveries |
/SCWM/PRDO | Outbound deliveries |
/SCWM/RFUI | Radio frequency transactions |
/SCWM/WAVE | Wave management |
/SCWM/PI_PROCESS | Physical inventory |
SAP EWM FAQ
Embedded or decentralized EWM?
It depends on volume and warehouse automation. Embedded EWM in S/4HANA is enough for most warehouses; decentralized EWM is justified for very large or highly automated operations.
What happens to SAP WM when migrating to S/4HANA?
SAP WM is not part of the S/4HANA future model. The alternatives are embedded EWM or Stock Room Management; we help you choose and plan the migration.
Do you configure radio frequency?
Yes. We configure RF screens and processes for receiving, putaway, picking and inventory.
